LegalMortgage.co.uk is a legal information resource providing case reports, articles and regular updates on all aspects of mortgage law, practice, and litigation in England and Wales. The resources provided are aimed to support lawyers, property professionals, and anyone with an interest in the law relating to mortgages, legal charges and other issues relating to the use of land or buildings as security for funding.
Content is provided by industry specialists, including solicitors and barristers.
LegalMortgage.co.uk was originally created by Nigel Clayton, a member of the Business & Property Group at Kings Chambers, a leading civil set based in Manchester, Leeds, and Birmingham. Called to the Bar in 1987, Nigel sits as a Civil and Business & Property Court Recorder and is accredited by the ADR Group as a Civil and Commercial Mediator. He has practised exclusively in property law and related estates work throughout his career, specialising in mortgage law and litigation. Nigel has extensive experience acting for banks, building societies, centralised lenders, and borrowers, and has appeared in several high-profile cases. He is the author of Mortgage Possession Actions (Sweet & Maxwell) and Atkin’s Court Forms, Vol 28(1) on Mortgages (2024) (LexisNexis), is the mortgage editor of the Property Law UK website, and is a regular speaker on mortgage law.
As of 1 January 2026, LegalMortgage.co.uk is now managed by IQ Legal Training Limited, which is also responsible for editing Property Law UK.
